  6. The following are technical notes and descriptions of potential problems
  7. that were not available when the documentation was printed.

  14.         For titles that use multiple databases (eg. Factomatic Business 
  15.         Library) it is not possible to correctly open a saved layout if 
  16.         the current database is not identical to the one with which the
  17.         layout was created. Opening a saved layout with a different
  18.         database can cause the program to crash.

  25. ---     "Insufficient memory, try closing a few windows". This error message 
  26.         will appear when the user attempts to open too many pictures at once.
  27.         The number of pictures open at any time is severely limited by the
  28.         available memory of your system. On many systems it is only possible
  29.         to open three or four pictures at the same time. You will be able
  30.         to open a great many more articles by closing just one of the open
  31.         pictures.

  34. ---     To run the Macintosh titles directly from the CD-ROM 
  35.     (without a complete installation to hard disk) do the following:
  36.  
  37.         1) Double click on the Install.MAC icon.
  38.  
  39.         2) Click the Customize button
  40.  
  41.         3) Highlight the Compton's Fonts... line that 
  42.            is appropriate for your system version.
  43.            
  44.         4) Click the Install button to install only the
  45.            Compton's Fonts to your System folder.
  46.  
  47.         5) Restart the system as requested in the 
  48.            dialog box.
  49.  
  50.         6) Double click on the MOST Icon that
  51.            appears when the CD-ROM is loaded.

  53.         7) Open the folder captioned "mac".
  54.  
  55.         8) Double click on the MOST Icon within 
  56.            that folder to start your program.

  63. ---     If you have chosen to run your M.O.S.T.-DOS product directly 
  64.         from the CD-ROM, without installing to your hard-disk, it will
  65.         not be possible to print to a file. The program uses a file called 
  66.         OUTPUT.TXT for printing, and since your CD-ROM is a read-only
  67.         drive, printing to this file is not possible.

  70. ---     ENHANCING SPEED AND PERFORMANCE
  71.  
  72.         One of the best qualities of the MS-DOS operating system is its 
  73.     flexibility.  The way your system is configured often affects the 
  74.     performance of software programs.  Your new M.O.S.T. disc is 
  75.     programmed to take advantage of a variety of system configurations.  
  76.         The following are suggestions for improving the speed and performance 
  77.     of the DOS version of the M.O.S.T. software:
  78.  
  79.         - Install the software onto your hard drive. This reduces the time 
  80.       spent accessing information from the CD-ROM disc.
  81.  
  82.         - If you install the program onto your hard drive, use a disk cache 
  83.       (for example, Microsoft SmartDrive).
  84.  
  85.         - Configure your system to use expanded memory. The software 
  86.       automatically takes advantage of up to 400K of expanded memory 
  87.       when it is available.
  88.  
  89.         - Use your system's extended memory. To use extended memory, type 
  90.       CNM /e at the command line when loading the program.
  91.  
  92.         NOTE: The M.O.S.T. software will not use extended memory if 
  93.     expanded memory is available.

  95.         NOTE: Using extended memory may conflict with older programs that 
  96.     also use this type of memory. If you experience problems with the 
  97.     /e option, remove all device drivers and TSRs that use extended 
  98.     memory.
